Farm money, postwar sets and rodeo silver from Mesquite
Mesquite took its name from Mesquite Creek and incorporated in 1887. For decades the land around it grew cotton, hay, corn and even sugar beets, shipped out by rail to Dallas and beyond. A restored ranch homestead from 1871 still stands in the city, a reminder of how recently this was open farmland.
Farm money was often hard money. Families who sold a crop or a few acres sometimes kept silver dollars, $20 gold pieces and large-size notes at home rather than in a bank, and those holdings still come out of Mesquite estates in tobacco tins, fruit jars and the back of a gun safe. Large-size notes were issued before 1929, and a crisp one can bring a real premium, so keep them flat and do not tape any tears. If a $20 gold piece turns up, the date and mint mark decide whether it sells as gold or as a collector coin.
Then the city boomed. Mesquite went from under 2,000 residents in 1950 to more than 50,000 by 1970, filling in along I-30, I-635 and US 80. The new households were more likely to collect for fun. We see Bicentennial sets from 1976, Eisenhower dollars including the 40% silver versions the Mint sold to collectors in the 1970s, and Kennedy halves from 1965 to 1970, which are 40% silver too. Bicentennial quarters, halves and dollars with the 1776-1976 double date are usually face value, unless they are the silver collector versions with an S mint mark.
The rodeo has been part of Mesquite for decades, and some families keep trophy buckles and western jewelry from those years. Many buckles are plated or carry only a thin silver overlay, while others are solid sterling. The XRF reader shows the difference in seconds, and we price only the metal that is really there.
A slice of Mesquite reaches into Kaufman County, so the probate court for a parent's estate depends on which side of the line the house sits. The written appraisal we prepare spells out the date, mint mark and grade of every coin, and either county's court can use it. If you have already been quoted at a hotel buying event, bring that number with you. We will show you, piece by piece, how our offer is built. Call (469) 754-8608 to book.

Selling coins from Mesquite
Are Eisenhower dollars silver?
Most are not. The ones struck for circulation are copper-nickel, but the special collector versions the Mint sold in the 1970s are 40% silver. We check each one and tell you which kind you have.
Is my rodeo buckle sterling silver?
Some are, and many are plated. We read it on the XRF screen in front of you, and if it is plated we will tell you it is worth more as a keepsake.
My parents' house is on the Kaufman County side of Mesquite. Can you still help with probate?
Yes. Our written item-by-item appraisal works for the Kaufman County court the same way it does for Dallas County.
I found old $20 gold pieces in a gun safe. What happens next?
Leave them uncleaned and call to book. We check the date, mint mark and grade on each coin, because some bring more than their gold content.
Can I compare your offer with a quote from a buying event?
Yes. Bring the earlier quote, and we will walk through our written offer line by line so you can compare them fairly.
