From bungalow silver to modern slabs in University Park
University Park began as a neighborhood of modest homes north of SMU, which opened in 1915. In those first years the university itself supplied the houses around it with utilities. When that stopped working, neither Dallas nor Highland Park wanted the cost of taking over, so residents voted in 1924, by a wide margin, to form their own city.
That middle-class start still shows up in the coins. The first owners of those brick bungalows were teachers, shopkeepers and young professionals, and they saved the way people did then: Mercury dimes and Walking Liberty halves in a cigar box, a few silver certificates, a Peace dollar from a birthday. Pre-1965 dimes, quarters and halves are 90% silver, so even a worn box of pocket change holds real metal.
Most of those bungalows have since been replaced, and the families in the larger homes today keep different things. We see sealed bullion, PCGS and NGC slabs, and gold coins bought through a broker during a career in law, medicine or finance. A slab already states the grade, so the offer on a certified coin rests on that grade and on what dealers are paying for it now.
A university town also collects the world. Faculty families, visiting scholars and alumni who studied abroad bring us envelopes of francs, pesetas, shillings and old Mexican pesos. Most coins from the years before the euro trade for very little, and we will tell you so. Some older European and Latin American pieces contain silver, though, and the XRF reader shows which ones in front of you.
Central Expressway divides the city, and Highland Park ISD schools serve most homes on both sides, so many families have lived here through two or three generations of students. When a family finally sells, the movers and the estate sale company tend to arrive in the same busy month. Pull the coins aside early, keep them in their original holders, and do not polish anything, since cleaning lowers a coin's grade.
Our number is (469) 754-8608, and appointments run on weekdays. An executor who needs paperwork can request a coin-by-coin written appraisal for probate, insurance or the heirs, and we prepare it at the same visit.

Selling coins from University Park
I found a box of foreign coins from my father's years teaching abroad. Is any of it worth selling?
Some of it may be. Most modern circulating coins bring very little, but older silver pieces from Europe, Canada and Mexico sell for their metal. We read each one on the XRF screen and set aside anything worth keeping as a souvenir.
Should I send my University Park collection to PCGS before selling?
Usually not for common coins, since grading costs money and time. If a coin looks like a better date in nice condition, we will tell you whether grading makes sense before you decide.
Are the dimes in my grandmother's cigar box silver?
Any dime dated 1964 or earlier is 90% silver. We separate those from the newer clad coins, count the face value with you and price the silver from today's spot.
Do I need to be there in person if I live out of state?
The person selling needs to be present with a driver's license or state ID, because Texas law requires us to record it. Some families send a sibling or the executor who lives in Dallas.
