A railroad farm town that grew up fast
Prosper's name came from a good harvest. Two small settlements, Rock Hill to the south and Richland to the north, farmed the blackland prairie here from the mid-1800s. When residents applied for a post office under the name Richland, they found it was already taken, and a local man suggested Prosper because the crops that year had been so good. The St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad arrived in March 1902, the two communities merged around the new depot, and the town incorporated in 1914.
For most of the 1900s Prosper stayed a small cotton town and rail stop on the line between Dallas and Sherman. The families who farmed here saved the way farm families did, in coffee cans and cigar boxes. Their coins show it: Indian Head and wheat cents, Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, silver certificates and the odd gold piece put away before 1933. Many of those coins are worn from honest use. Worn silver and gold still carry their full metal weight.
Then came the boom. Preston Road turned into a commercial corridor, master-planned neighborhoods like Windsong Ranch filled with new homes, and Prosper ISD added schools as fast as it could. Many of today's residents are newcomers, and plenty came from other states.
That shapes the calls we get from Prosper. A common one goes like this: a family moved here, and a parent moved in with them or nearby. When that parent passes, the children inherit a collection built somewhere else, often a run of state quarters, a stack of Silver Eagles, proof sets and a few graded coins bought by mail. They want to know what it is worth before they decide whether to keep any of it.
We are glad to help sort it. We separate silver from clad, flag anything with a better date or mint mark, and run any gold or bullion through the XRF reader while you watch. You get a written list either way, which helps when siblings in other states want to see what is there.
One honest note: state quarter folders and modern clad coins are usually worth face value, and we will tell you that up front rather than make an offer that wastes your time. You will need a photo ID if you sell. Weekday times are available on request, and a family with more than a few boxes can call to set up a home appointment.

Selling coins from Prosper
Are state quarters worth anything?
Most are worth face value. A few error coins and silver proof versions bring more, and we check for those. We will tell you honestly if a folder is worth only its face.
My parent's collection was built out of state. Can you still appraise it?
Yes. Coins are priced the same no matter where they were bought. Bring any receipts or notes you have, but they are not required.
Can my siblings see the appraisal if they live elsewhere?
Yes. You get a written item-by-item list you can share. Many families use it to agree on a plan before anyone sells.
What if I only want an appraisal and not an offer?
That works. There is no charge and no duty to sell. Every coin goes home with you, along with our written list.
